ABOUT
My name is Emma Appleton and I am a Product and Furniture Designer from London.
My designs are rooted in simple drawings or models. During the design process, they become more complicated, but I work until I regains the simplicity, maybe even ending up with a design that can be described in a single line, like my Paperclip Chair.
I like designing things to be used every day and by everyone – such as chairs and stools, things that tell you about how, when and where they were made. I love how an old chair tells a story of the people for whom it was designed.
I am very motivated like many in my generation by the climate emergency and sustainability always has a thread through my work.
I have a background in art, particularly sculpture, and since 2018, have been working part-time for a sculptor as a casting and mould-making assistant in his bronze foundry in Kew, where I have had the opportunity to make some of my own bronze pieces.
